Courtney and Jerome

Courtney is my longest friend and I was thrilled and honored to photograph her wedding.

First, the getting ready. When I photograph a wedding, I like to be there the whole time because there is so much to the day to tell, from moments spontaneous to planned, but all of which will flee from memory as time rolls on.

The story continues with a first look, a long look, and the joy of family and friends who share the celebration.

One of the things I enjoy the most about photographing a wedding is not just the big moments, but the small details that illustrate the combining of personalities or that reveal a part of the couple’s story together (a map of dates, a fancy cupcake only one will eat).

I love photographing weddings because of the love and connection that we’re celebrating, where nearly every photograph of a person is one with a big smile or huge laugh. Courtney and Jerome’s wedding was no exception to that rule.

Another thing I love to do in every wedding is to take before and after photographs of the couple because no matter the size of the wedding, no matter the length of the relationship, there is something profound and sacred in the exchange of vows, and there is always a change in affect and body language, even subtle, that helps to tell the story of the day.
