Baby-Friendly Project Revisited
I love the privilege of getting to meet babies within their first day or two of life. and I am honored to be invited into your space.
My Favorite Things 2023
For the last few years, I’ve run a contest on my Facebook page to share some of my favorite images of the year and to celebrate the love and connection I try to capture in every session. This year, I made a video of some of the highlights!
Dads Need Skin-to-Skin Too
I have always found something so sweet in the juxtaposition of newborn baby on their father’s chest. The tenderness, the power. The meeting of that new person at last and the oxytocin flood that holding them can give you.
Newborn Photography: The Squishiest Days
Many new parents are ambivalent or undecided about having photos done - and it is a commitment, to get out of the house within those earliest days when night and day have been jumbled and you’re different people. But no one ever regrets doing newborn photos.
Now You're the Big Kid: Newborn Siblings
I know when my own kiddo found out a new baby was on the way, there were the typical excitement/nonchalance/dimissal/excitement phases, followed by - after second kiddo’s actual arrival - even more typical phases of excitement/sorrow/non-plussed avoidance/nostalgia. But I do know that to see the little ones I love most in the world loving each other is the truest bliss and satisfaction in my heart
Newborn Smiles: A Study in Adorableness
Every new parent who has held a newborn baby sleeping in your arms has marveled at the quick smles that pass over their face. Gas or unregulated nervous system or whatever the cause, a newborn smile is a wondrous thing.
Baby-Friendly Photo Project
I have been helping MV Hospital update their wall of new parents images as part of their baby-friendly initiative.
Wool is Another Word for Love
I have several creative outlets - when I was younger, it was visual art, through to poetry, into photography, and always with an impulse to be craftsy and also to try to make things myself instead of buy them.
So this hobby of felting became a big part of my creative process for my newborn photography.
hashtag capturethejourney redux
One of the things that I often think about is how photography is a tool to document and capture time as it passes, a method to freeze what spools inexorably on in one direction away from us. The transformation over that 12 months of long days and the shortest year is the most dramatic and it’s one of my favorite series to #capturethejourney.
2023 Baby Boom: Newborns of Martha's Vineyard
I believe that newborn photography is the best job I can have and I am so thrilled and honored to get to meet your new baby and help you capture these days with images that you will treasure. Because your newborn baby is never going to get any smaller. Because you will forget these so long days in the so short years.
My Favorite Things 2022
For the last two years, I’ve run a contest on my Facebook page to share some of my favorite images of the year and to celebrate the love and connection I try to capture in every session
When Should You Get Newborn Photos Done? Top Tips For The Best Session
You’re having a baby on Martha’s Vineyard and you’re thinking about newborn photos to capture these fleeting days? Newborn photography is my specialty and my passion (along with birth) and I welcome the opportunity and honor to meet your baby in their first days and weeks of life.
The conventional wisdom around ideal timing for a newborn session is that having your session within the first two weeks after birth is ideal, but although that is the ideal, it is not the rule at all.
Martha's Vineyard Newborn Studio #BehindTheScenes
After years of carting my newborn gear to new parents’ homes to do my sessions, this past year I finally had my own studio space to use - and I am so in love with my new creative space to host the tiny babies.
Newborn Photography: Showing off my new studio
I am so in love with my new studio space. It is cozy (just the right size for a newborn) and bright (that window light is divine), and parents can look over my shoulder as I work my sleepy magic on their sweet peas.
#marthasvineyard newborn photographer: Some collected favorites
A few more babies I’ve had the honor and privilege of meeting in their earliest days this year. A few more favorite squishy nuggets wrapped up in textures I’ve made. A few more cozy beans tucked in close to the heart.
In-home newborn sessions
Now that my newborn studio is finished, I only offer in-home lifestyle sessions. For families looking for posed newborn sessions, I invite you to my cozy studio in Edgartown.
Both a lifestyle and a posed session capture your baby at their smallest - the difference between the two is really an aesthetic preference.
Your Children Will Thank You Part 2: How to Print Your Family Photos
Most of my photography clients on Martha’s Vineyard - whether family, newborn, or wedding - want to print their images, but one question that I often get asked is, where should I get them printed? It is still one of my greatest joys to see my photographs up on client walls and so one of the things that I want to help you with is the best way to print for lasting quality and impact.
Your Children Will Thank You: Why Prints Matter
When you think about your life, which photographs are the best images that capture your history, that stand in for your memories when memory fades? If you’re not sure, this blog post is for you.
Newborn Photography: Which Style is Right for You?
I love love love newborn photography. It is such an honor to meet these tiny people when they are so fresh and squishy and to be invited to crash your new baby party for a few hours. I want to explain a little bit about the two main types of newborn sessions: so-called “lifestyle” and “posed”.
Fresh 48 Sessions: Meeting Your Baby
A so-called “Fresh 48” shoot happens typically within the first two days (or 48 hours) of life - often while baby and parents are still in the hospital getting to know each other. I love these sessions because it is an opportunity to capture all the little details of a new baby, often before they’ve even fully opened their eyes or dried off their heads.
